Dr Andy Painting and David England were invited to be the key note speakers at the Sussex Chamber of Commerce construction forum at the East Sussex National Resort on 27th June. The presentation was titled ‘An effective strategy for safe design in engineering and construction’ and was presented in two parts. In the first part, Dr Painting spoke about the importance of managing the design effectively from the initial concept stage through to planning the production (or construction) of the asset. In the second part, David England demonstrated how the risk in projects could be effectively managed to prevent scope creep, error, and wastage. The presentation demonstrated the symbiotic relationship between design and use and the need to manage the risk throughout the design lifecycle.

The presentation was well received and was followed by a good range of considered questions which helped to stimulate the conversation around this complex and engaging subject.
