HMS Victory mast removal

Ensuring safety during complex lifts

Dedication, respect, and an overwhelming sense of history: these are just some of the qualities of the large team devoted to restoring HMS Victory. And that is why Attis were chosen to provide engineering and safety assistance during a complex lift project.

The oldest commissioned warship in the world and flagship of the Second Sealord, Victory is undergoing a 10-year long ‘Big Repair’ to bring it back to pristine condition. Part of this repair is to conserve the masts and bowsprit which had to removed using a 750 tonne crane and specialized lifting gear, with the lifting being done overnight to ensure a sterile work area.

Attis were there every step of the way – and every hour during the night, providing advice, ensuring everyone’s safety, and tracking the project’s progress. Our unique skills in overseeing infrastructure construction, testing of historic monuments, and now advising on the one of the world’s most famous ships are testament to the dedication that Attis bring to every project.

"Attis were engaged to work with the museum to finalise the HMS Victory mast lift safety case and, as our critical friend, provided invaluable guidance and assurance, supporting the delivery of a successful and safe operation."
